Valtos is a 15 minute drive from Portree, the capital of the island, and 5 minutes from Staffin which has 2 shops, launderette, petrol and 2 cafes serving lunch and evening meals. Even nearer is The Glenview serving fresh, local food (AA rosette). Nearby attractions include the Kilt Rock, the Storr, fishing and wildlife boat trips from Staffin, and the Museum of Island Life.
